Today, in competition with our neighbors and the oppressive heat, we finished in 2nd place Overall, including 1st Place in the Tug of War !!!  Our teams also placed 2nd in the Bucket Brigade and Midnight Run events, coming in 2 seconds behind Hatfield VFC in each event.

Congratulations to the overall winners, Hatfield VFC, who played and planned a great day!!

The events were called early due to the excessive heat. We are thankful for the efforts of Lansdale VMSC in keeping us all hydrated.

Finally, Thanks to our Board of Supervisors who not only attend in "full green support" but who also arranged free passes for all TVFC members and families at the township pool today.

The attached photos show our $250 prize, trophies and a group shot of the "Mean, Green Water Battle Team".

Well Done TVFC !!!!!!!

Tanker Drills in Towamencin
Thursday, June 16, 2011
-
On Thursday evening TVFC invited Harleysville, Skippack, Tylersport and Worcester Fire Companies to a drill. The purpose was to test our efficiency at delivering water in an area where fire hydrants are unavailable. A portion of Towamencin Twp, commonly known as the "Panhandle", is just such a location.

TVFC pumped water from and back into the Towamencin Creek at two points along Kriebel Road.

The following pictures show how tankers shuttle water to "porta-tanks" at a "dump site". The porta-tanks are filled by dumping water into them. Another fire engine then draws the water from the tanks and sends it to the fire, in this case the Harleysville Fire Company Ladder truck. Then the tankers  travel to a "fill site" location re-fill via another fire engine. Once refilled the tankers travel a predetermined route back to the "dump site" and maintain the cycle to keep the working fire trucks supplied with water.

While this may seem quite easy, the coordination and logistics for an incident require training and practice.

Our thanks to the very understanding local residents who may have been inconvenienced by the by traffic. Thanks to to our neighboring fire companies and their fire police for assisting.

It is our hope that by training this way, if the need arises in an actual emergency, we'll be ready.

Walnut Meadows Community Center
Sunday, March 27, 2011
-
On Sunday afternoon March 27 at 348 PM TVFC (76), Hatfield (17) and Perseverance (74) responded on a commercial building fire at the Community Center of Walnut Meadows, 65 Wood Hollow Drive. Captain 76 (Dolan) was the duty officer and arrived confirming a police report of a working fire. Engine 76, Engine 76-1 , Ladder 17 and Tower 74 provided attack , ventilation and initial manpower. The fire was contained to the area of origin, a front walkway and vestibule with extension into the roof area. Although conditions were not favorable on arrival the crews did an excellent job by confining the fire and preventing its extension once they arrived.
The Fire Marshal determined the fire was likely caused by improperly discarded smoking materials, starting in the area underneath the front deck and walkway before it extended up and out.

The fire was under control in less than 40 minutes, crews remained on scene until after 6 PM.

Towamencin was assisted by;  Hatfield, Perseverance Souderton, Upper Salford, Harleysville and North Penn were on scene, North Penn Goodwill for canteen services, Lansdale VMSC for EMS, Upper Gwynedd and Telford provided coverage, Towamencin PD for traffic/security/investigation.
